Tips for How to Plan a Wedding

Checklist for How to Plan a WeddingWhether you’re the bride, groom, mother of the bride or even the grandmother of the bride or groom, there are many things to consider when planning a wedding.  As such, the purpose of today’s post is to give you a bit of a cheat sheet with tips and tricks for how to plan a wedding.

The first thing you’ll want to consider is the overall theme and color scheme of the wedding, as just about everything else you do will flow from these basic decisions.  Plus, these 2 aspects of the wedding are the most visually defining, so they are critical if you want your wedding to look beautiful and elegant.

When thinking about the colors, make sure you factor in not only the overall theme, but also the season, as colors that are appropriate for a summer wedding usually are not appropriate for winter weddings.  Also, keep in mind that most experts recommend having a minimum of 3 color components – the primary color, an accent color, and a metallic color like silver or gold – that synergize with one another.

Once you have the theme and the color palette finalized, every other visual aspect of how to plan a wedding must complement these basic choices.  For example, the bride’s dress, bridesmaid’s dresses, bouquet, tablecloths, centerpieces, wedding favors, wedding cake, and the wedding accessories will all need to reflect the overall theme and color palette for maximum visual impact.

Aside from the color scheme and theme, the next step is to pick a venue.  Make sure you do this early on in the process, as the best venues tend to get booked well in advance, especially during the prime wedding season.  Visit each venue under consideration, and prepare a list of questions in advance so nothing is left to chance.

Once the venue is chosen, start meeting with and selecting the other vendors, like photographers, videographers, florists, DJs, print shops, caterers, limo drivers, bakers, etc.  Regarding the photography, make sure that the photographer has good experience and references, and make sure he or she is willing to set the camera to the highest resolution possible.  Remember that your wedding pictures will live on for generations, so they ought to be high quality.

Some of the other important considerations in terms of how to plan a wedding include the wedding invitations, the guest list, the registry, the bridal party and groomsmen logistics, and the honeymoon to name just a few.

Yes it might seem overwhelming, but just take it one step at a time.  And remember that the most difficult aspect of how to plan a wedding involves deciding on the theme, color palette and venue – once these things have been figured out, the rest is pretty much smooth sailing.  Good luck!
