Trend Alert: 3 Reasons Why Destination Weddings are Hot

Destination weddings are hotThere is an emerging trend within the wedding industry at the moment where more and more couples are opting for a destination wedding.  Destination weddings have always been a nice option for couples looking for something a little less traditional, but for some reason the popularity of this option has exploded in 2012.  But the question is; why?  Well, in my estimation there are 3 primary reasons for this hot wedding trend.

Reason 1: The Ability to Live the Dream

The first reason is that it offers a much more unique and memorable experience compared to a traditional church ceremony followed by a wedding reception.  It’s like having the best of both worlds – an elegant wedding at the same time as a fun and exciting honeymoon or vacation.  The scenery and ambiance of destination wedding locations helps to increase the overall romance of the day, which will make it even more special and memorable in the long run.  Simply put, it enables couples to have something of a dream wedding in an incredibly scenic, romantic, and tropical paradise – possibly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Reason 2: The Ability to Save Money

It may sound counterintuitive, but weddings at far off places can actually be less expensive compared to traditional wedding ceremonies.   As I’ve previously written about, the average cost of a wedding is through the roof, and as such it precludes some couples from going down this path.  With a destination wedding, there are fewer wedding guests, which of course will reduce the costs associated with food, booze and wedding favors.  Plus, destination weddings usually offer the ability to save money on wedding flowers and other décor items, as the location itself will already be beautiful and romantic (i.e., leave well enough alone…)

Reason 3: The Ability to Reduce Stress

There’s no doubt about it – wedding planning is one of the most stressful things you could possibly go through.  But with a destination wedding, much of this stress can be alleviated.  Many locations offer all-inclusive packages, so there’s no need to worry about coordinating the venue, caterer, DJ, minister, florist, etc.  Additionally, by default any destination wedding guest list will be relatively small compared to that of a traditional wedding, so you can often avoid the stress associated with guest list tinkering.  Plus, guests will generally be more understanding if they are left off the destination wedding guest list compared to being left off the list of a larger, more traditional wedding.

Summary

As you can see, there are many benefits of opting for a destination wedding in lieu of something more formal and traditional.  You’ll save money and stress, and if your dream is to get married in a tropical locale, you can live it.  Of course, some couples might feel pressure from the mother of the bride, grandmother, or another close family member to have a more traditional wedding.  All I can say about this is that it’s your big day, and therefore you ought to be able to do what you want to do irrespective of what others might think or prefer.  So I say if you want to wed in a romantic paradise, by all means go for it – many, many other couples have followed suit.  Good luck and most importantly, have fun!
