5 Creative Ideas to Personalize Your Wedding

Personalized wedding favorsI’ve played the role of mother of the bride several times in the past (ahem!) few years, but nothing is better than actually being the bride.  And one of the best things about your wedding day is the fact that, well, it’s your wedding day!  So it’s important to add your own personal touches, whether you have a wedding planner or not.  What follows are 5 creative ideas for subtle personal touches that’ll hopefully get your creative juices flowing.

First, you can start adding your personal flair to your wedding before the big day even arrives.  For example, one element that can easily be personalized is the wedding invitations. Forget about boring old paper stationary, why not get with the digital age and send a video invitation?  You and your partner could do a funny skit, a heartfelt speech, or a self-roast.  Some other invitation ideas include creating a song and burning it onto CDs as the invitation, sending an engraved object associated with your wedding theme or favorite hobby, or sending unusual non-paper invitations such as mouse pads, coffee mugs or magnets.  Really, the sky’s the limit on this one.

Another idea is to come up with one or more signature cocktails for the wedding reception.  Incorporate aspects of you and your partner’s likes, hobbies, favorite foods, philosophies, etc.  For example, if your union was at first unexpected but then quickly blossomed into love at first site, you could say that you were meant to be together like peanut butter and chocolate and create a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup cocktail.  Or if your favorite food is an apple, create a customized version of an apple martini.  Or if you love the Caribbean Islands, create a key lime pie-flavored drink.  As you can see, the only limit here is your own imagination.

The wedding theme is another area that is ripe for personal touches.  Try and incorporate elements associated with some common interests that you have with your partner (hopefully there are at least a few to choose from!).  An obvious example for sports fans is a wedding theme that showcases you and your partner’s favorite professional team.  Or if you and your partner are diehard skiers, consider a winter wedding theme.  Or if you love 1980s music, create a vintage 80s theme.  Hopefully you get the idea here.

Another idea is to personalize your wedding program.  For example, if you and your partner like to vacation in tropical locales, have programs shaped like palm trees or coconuts.  Another idea is to expand your program and include bios and pictures of the bridesmaids, groomsmen, and close friends and family such as the grandmother of the bride or groom.  Or, like drinking beer?  If so, consider designing the programs like giant beer bottle labels.

Finally and perhaps most obviously, your wedding favors are definitely candidates for a high dose of personalization.  The most personal approach is to create your own wedding favors.  But if you’re not the crafty type, simply search high and low for small objects you can buy in quantity that somehow reflect the personalities of you both.  Give this one a lot of thought, because your wedding guests will be taking these objects home and as such they can make a lasting impression.

In the final analysis, your wedding is your wedding, so why not let it show?  Think about ways to personalize the ideas above to your own personality and preferences.  This will help to ensure the most memorable, personal and enjoyable wedding day possible.  For more ideas to add personal touches to your wedding, check out this article from huffingtonpost.com.
