The Hottest Mother of the Bride Dresses for 2013

Mother of the bride dresses can be trendy too!Fashion styles and trends tend to evolve every year in general, and mother of the bride dresses are certainly no exception.  Some of the trendy fashions that were hot just a couple of years ago are now completely passé.  Therefore, if your daughter is getting married this year, it’s important to understand the idiosyncrasies of the various 2013 mother of the bride dress trends so you can be sure to look your absolute best.

Luckily, I recently stumbled onto a video from a local television news broadcast that definitely sheds some light on what’s hot versus what’s not in 2013.  It’s definitely worth a quick watch if you are struggling with the current trends. Check out the video immediately below, or if you are more text-inclined, you can read my summary underneath the video.  Enjoy!

When it comes to mother of the bride dresses, the 3 most critical trends for 2013 are color, color, and color!  In previous years it was considered apropos to wear either a mild or pastel color or a color that somewhat meshed with the colors of the bridal party or wedding theme.  Luckily this is no longer necessary, which enables you to wear whatever color dress looks best on you.  Some of the trendiest 2013 mother of the bride dress colors include dark blues, pinks, greens, purples, reds and two-tone varieties.  That said, always remember that generally speaking, the best colored dress is often one which matches your eye color – especially if your eyes are blue or green.

Some of the specific dress styles that are hot for 2013 include sleeveless dresses with ruffled shawls that cover the arms.  In lieu of a sleeveless option, short laced sleeves work great as well.  In fact, lace in general, especially with a vintage twist, is definitely a winner for 2013.  Yet another sleeve-covering alternative is a wedding jacket in a color that matches your dress.  In fact, the video offers a nice secret to having the jacket collar stay up and frame the face – line it with a bit of wire.  This will keep the collar up all day and night.

Peplum dress patterns are also trendy, as are ribbed patterns, as these types of patterns can help hide any imperfections you may have.  Dresses with nice floaty bottoms, those with flowered hemlines, and those that are functional on the dance floor are also definitely hot this year.  The video shows several really beautiful and elegant dress styles that cover these and other stylish fashion features, so I highly recommend you watch it right now.   You could also browse dress styles online – for example, here is a nice selection of mother of the bride dresses from David’s Bridal.

Of course, no mother of the bride dresses would ever be complete without jewelry, especially colorful and/or sparkly accessories that draw the eyes to the face (which is super important for the wedding pictures).  The latter stages of the video show some stunning examples.  Like the dress itself, the bottom line with your jewelry and accessories is that it matters not what season the wedding takes place in or whether or not you “match” the bridal party or wedding theme colors; the only thing that matters is how you look at the wedding as well as in the wedding photos for decades to come.
