Mother of the Groom Outfits & Suits

Shopping for your outfit as mother of the groom should be an enjoyable occasion. 

If you prefer the more formal style of co-ordinating jacket & skirt, then a suit is a great choice for you.  If you love wearing flowing dresses, then team up a formal dress with a jacket for the perfect formal look.

For women who live in jeans everyday, choosing smarter clothing can be something of a challenge, not because we don't love getting girly, but simply because you're less familiar with what styles and fashions are going to work well for your figure.

Mothers Etiquette

It's etiquette to wait until the bride's mother chooses her outfit before choosing yours.  However, you may choose not to observe this etiquette for several reasons.  If there's seasonal sales, then buying your clothes and accessories at discount may be a higher priority. 

One thing you will need to be aware of, though not necessarily bound by, is the color theme that the bride and groom are having for their wedding day.  Whilst you may not choose to wear the same color, buying clothing in a complementary shade rather than something that clashes in simply polite and will be appreciated.

Some brides may try and insist about what you wear, but unless you are planning to wear something outrageous, quiet affirmation that the choice is yours will hopefully win her over.

Shopping for your Outfit

Online shopping for formal wear is easier, with stores like Womens Suits, Jacques Vert and Sydneys Closet offering a range of fabulous stylish suits for special occasions.  Stores such as JC Penney also offer special occasion wear for all sizes, together with a wide range of bags and accessories.

Bigger towns & cities often offer small boutiques with occasion clothing, as well as department stores offering a selection.   Check out your local phone directory or simply Google "mother of the groom" or "mother of the bride" in your local area.  This can also be an effective way to find a hat shop or milliner who can offer you a hat worthy of attention.
