There's a real craze for wedding cupcakes with brides to be at present.
In 2009 The Guardian newspaper called them a "half-baked idea", but hundreds of couples are bucking the trend for fruity wedding cakes to indulge themselves and their wedding guests in tasty and attractive cupcakes.
After years of unimaginative iced cakes, this is one that appeals to both couples and their guests - with plenty of "oohs" and "aahs" when instead of the cake being cut, the wedding cupcakes are passed around to guests for immediate consumption. The cake tower looks fabulous in your wedding photographs too.
Of course, this also gets rid of the dilemma many couples have regarding whether they should opt for a sponge, chocolate or fruit cake - after all, who doesn't like a good cupcake now and then?
The great news for couples in the current economic climate is that this is also a budget option - the towers can cost around $30-35 (and be sold on after the wedding), and it's fairly easy if you've got creative friends or relatives for them to create wedding cupcakes with a little colorful icing or frosting. Finish the cupcake off with a small iced flower for the perfect look on a budget. If not, there's an increasing number of suppliers available, either online or locally, that will offer to create you something special. The only down side is that these really do need to be baked fresh, so ensure that you plan for this.
Did this trend start from some of the best bakeries in London? The Hummingbird bakery in London has long been creating some of the most appealing cupcake designs. New Yorks Magnolia Bakery also offers a fabulous range of cupcakes that have caught the public imagination.
Wherever the trend started from, it looks as if wedding cupcakes are here to stay!

One Response to “Wedding Cupcakes”
I really don’t like this idea. Call me a traditionalist, but wedding cupcakes seem a bit cheesy to me. Plus they tend to be expensive, don’t they? I’ll stick with a regular wedding cake for my son’s wedding.
