My Two Scents on Wedding Fragrances

Wedding candleThere’s no doubt about it, certain smells can truly stimulate your senses.  Some smells can remind you of something wonderful from your past, can help foster a sense of inner peace, or can even put you “in the mood.”  So why not embellish the overall ambiance of your wedding with some fabulous fragrances?

Wedding scents encompass everything from the bride’s perfume to the flowers to any candles or oils that you might use to accentuate the ambiance of the reception.

In terms of wedding perfume, it’s definitely ok to wear a stronger scent than normal because you will want your wedding guests to be able to smell it.  But don’t make it so strong that it overpowers.  Also, don’t be afraid to get fragrance advice from a beauty consultant, because your ultimate perfume choice should complement the other aromas that will permeate the big day.

Next, your wedding flowers will obviously give off quite an aroma, so they should be included in this discussion as well.  The key is to make sure that the various scents of the flowers do not clash with the bride’s perfume.  Also, keep in mind that stronger-smelling flowers are more appropriate for outdoor weddings as opposed to intimate indoor settings.  Definitely solicit advice from your florist on this one!

Finally, adding a variety of room fragrances is highly recommended.  For example, you could use a perfume room spray that the guests will enjoy as soon as they enter the church or ceremony venue.  At the reception, centerpieces that feature lovely-smelling candles or roses make for a really nice touch.  Another idea is to incorporate something scented into the wedding favors and/or the table napkins.  Lime is always a good option for table scents at the reception, because it’s a clean aroma that will not interfere with peoples’ taste buds.

The bottom line is that brides tend to spend so much time planning a wedding that often more subtle touches like fragrances are overlooked.   Do not make this mistake at your own wedding, because like I said at the beginning of this post, the aroma of any event definitely ties into its overall ambiance and aesthetics.  Carefully consider and evaluate the scents associated with your perfume, the flowers and the reception rooms, and make sure that they synergize with your wedding theme as well as each other.  For more detailed advice on wedding scents, click here.  Enjoy and good luck!
