How to Have a Nice Wedding on a Budget

Wedding on a BudgetThere are 2 things that most women want: having a nice wedding and saving money.  So it makes sense that most women want the nicest wedding possible, at the lowest possible cost.  Whether you’re the bride, groom, mother of the bride or even grandmother of the bride, this same “golden rule” is likely to apply.  As such, the purpose of this post is to help you save some serious money while still having the wedding of your dreams!

The first and perhaps most important set of tips involve the wedding date and venue.  First, try to have your wedding during the offseason if possible (especially Jan., Feb. and March).  I realize this isn’t an option for a lot of you, but if it is you could save hundreds of dollars.  Similarly, the actual day of the wedding can make as big a difference as the time of year, so opting for a non-Saturday wedding will certainly save you money.  Additionally, opt for a downgraded venue – the best wedding I’ve ever been to was held at a local fire hall with a very basic buffet dinner.  Once you’ve agreed on these things, formulate a wedding budget and stick to it.

You could also save money with your wedding dress.  You could rent a dress, hold out for a nice sale, shop off-season, buy a dress made from lower-quality material, or even look for hand-me-downs from friends and family.  Additionally, buy cheap wedding shoes and paint them if necessary, and go easy on the wedding accessories.

Money can also be saved on the decorating budget.  Things like centerpieces, guest favors, floral arrangements, and even the bridal bouquet can be bought with cheaper materials, or can be handmade if you’re the do-it-yourself type.  For example, silk flowers are cheaper than real flowers, and candles and vases can usually be found at the local dollar store.

Of course, there are many other ways to save cash as well.  For example, you could use bottom-tier wedding invitations and order them online instead of your local print shop.  You could also buy a plain wedding cake and decorate it yourself.  Additionally, find a stylist who can create wedding hairstyles AND do wedding makeup all in one shot, as this will give you a bit of a quantity discount.  If you plan to hire a caterer, shop around to find a low-cost provider, and make sure you do not get charged for any service you do not need.  Also, go easy on the liquor – there is generally no need to go top-shelf here.

So, there you have it!  I hope you have found these money-saving wedding ideas to be both useful and informative.  Follow this advice, and you can and will have the wedding of your dreams, no matter what your wedding budget.  Good luck!
